Bird Feeder Poem by Paul Reed

Bird Feeder

Hiding in the hedge

Just a shimmer and rustle of leaves to betray them

They suddenly appear - hungry

Darting and swift,

Energised like a flash

Clutching tight,

Balancing on blurred wings

Some at a curious angle

Some upside down;

They feed with a desperate hope

To ward off the winter

Scattering fat and seed

For the less acrobatic on the ground

And then, just as quickly,

They are gone.
