Better Poem by Dana Lamb

Better

My eyelids heavy
Smell of burnt flesh
Blinding light
Piercing the void within
Stinging pain
First I flinch
Utter a gasp
Involuntarily clasp my arm
Then welcome
All it can give me
Relax and smile
Take a deep breath
Air so fresh and fragrant
Rays of sun
Timidly caressing
My tear-stained face
I am a God’s child too
I deserve to be loved
Pain inside slowly materializing
Within my reach
And I let it go
As I watch red burns
Disfigure my skin
