Becoming A Parent Poem by Randy McClave

Becoming A Parent

The child will someday become the parent
Soon that will become very apparent,
They will remember how they were raised
And how they cursed and never was praised.
They will dress in the manner as their parents did
And not once will the parents forbid,
They will get tats and also dye their hair
As their parents did without worries or care.
They will remember low in depression the parent sank
So, the child too drank,
They will remember if who was always there for them
When in those nights their parents left them for a Jim or a Kim.
They might remember all of the weekends
When the child was sent to stay with family and/ or friends,
They'll remember if their parents were a good father or mother
And if they left or abandoned for another.
They will remember if they were treated well
Or, if because of their life theirs became a living hell,
They might remember all of the weekends
When they were sent to stay with family and/ or friends.
They might especially remember those Friday and Saturday nights
While their parent(s) were dancing under the lights,
And the child was sitting at the house all alone
And only their pets heard them cry and also moan.
The child will always remember how they were treated
And how by others they were always unseated,
And all the strangers that that they had also met
Many with a sadness and with sheer regret.
Now when the parents see their children now
Of them will they be honored and happy and proud,
And when they hear of the nights as their child partied and cuss
In the end our child will be like us.
