Balloon Seller Poem by RAJNI CHHABRA

Balloon Seller

Standing on footpath
In all seasons,
That tender aged boy sells
Rainbow colored balloons
And spreads colors of
Merriment all round.

Kids jump and dance
Holding balloons in hands

Balloons tempt him too.
But will he be ever able
To afford one for himself?

Poverty is a curse
Shatters rainbow dreams
Too taxing on his purse.

Has to save
Penny by penny
To manage
Medicine for ailing mother
A cup of milk for his
Younger sibling

Pondering over all this.
I buy a balloon from him
And give him as a gift.

The glow of happiness
On his innocent face
Fetches merry colors
Of solace for me.
