Autumn's Fallen Leaves Poem by Jaime Montanez Salcedo

Autumn's Fallen Leaves

As the opalescent mist ebbs away,
Strewing the leaves in diamond bright array
With dew that at dawn did tenderly pose,
Wherein sunlight would find congenial repose.
Like moving morsels of colorful light
Vibrate in the breezes with glorious delight,
Like butterflies proving their artistry
Flared, here and there, seeming jewelry
With many a variegated glow,
That in the splendor of autumn would bestow.
For all this, the maples in their glory,
The oaks, attired in golden luxury,
The aspens shed like spots of moving light,
The red sumacs harmoniously bright,
The scented myrtle, and holly evergreen
With bright red berries and glossy sheen.
Ah, what a world of glee among those leaves,
The chattering jay ample chat achieves,
The cardinal songs of love to be heard,
And the swift, iridescent hummingbird
Rivals the leaves, hovering in the air,
Besides, there, all is wonderful and fair.
The wind brakes in puffs and drafts in heaves,
Mischievously, away blowing the leaves,
Resembling myriad of butterflies
Hastening into the brilliant skies,
And falling in gracefully, careless, and slow
Midst the blue asters and daisies below.
Marvelous alchemy of colors galore,
Coalesce in autumn leaves ever more:
So that we feel uplifted from our woe,
Which fades away, like the fallen leaves would go.
