Atm Poem by Rom Mar

Atm

Got to take the bus, go home early
Check the atm and get some cash
Buy her flowers for anniversary
Don't worry, I'll be there in a flash

And I tried to check my balance
The screen showed me zero
All i saved for the past 3 months
Are gone like a fallen hero

Now I'm dead broke
There'll be no tulips for my honey
This day's nothing but a practical joke
Like a scene in a situation comedy

The news said it's gonna rain
A heavy fall according to the forecast
I have a ticket card, I'll take the train
Jumped over the fences and ran fast

But when I got there
The line was kilometer long
Asked the heavens why life is unfair
Why everything's going wrong

The clouds started to roar
So I calmed myself under the rusty shed
3 hours have gone now almost four
At this time, I should be in bed

Then I saw my good old friend
His name is Irfan Cruz
Asked him if I can borrow money to spend
But to no avail, he said 'Mafi Fulus'

Lucky I found some loose change
Scattered on the dirty sidewalk
I took a jeepney trip at 100 kph
The ride was rough like climbing the beanstalk

At 11, I reached the gates
There in the corner she waits
Her face is red, eyebrows raised
Lips pursed, hands on the waist

So I started my story
Calmed her to suppress her anger
Then she approached me
and in my ear she whispered,
'Happy Anniversary,
You are All That Matters'
