Ask Thee Not Poem by Ajit Kanale

Ask Thee Not

Ask thee not, dear child, eternal bliss,
For thou art not celestial, so high and free!
Ask for trials, dare thee dangers to seek and kiss,
For thou art a ship caught in an angry sea!

Rest thee not, for thou hast not the time,
Thou art a walker, with many-a-mile to tread!
Ever farther seemeth the goal, harder the clime,
But fall not for the mirage, thy prize loometh ahead!

Fly not too high, little bird, thou wilt lose breath,
For there are powers thou hast yet to preponderate!
Yet fly thee ever higher, fearless of peril or death!
For limits undaunted, shall thee desecrate!

When life’s river taketh thee in its stride,
Do not, my friend, swim against the flow!
But use thy power and tame the tide,
To visit more worlds that life wilt show!

Life is not a plain, O farmer dear,
Grow thy crops on the slopes, for noe!
If needeth thee, hills wilt thou clear,
For thou art a fount of power, well-endow’d!

When thou feelest at peace, to settle,
Life throweth a surprise before thee!
An attraction worth well thy mettle,
After which, hungry thy heart wilt be!

At junctions such, tarry thee a little,
Weigh thy wants and needs fairly well!
For life is full of decisions, much brittle,
Taken hurriedly, which, can make heaven, hell!

Find thy goal, for cases such.
Whether it taketh a day or year!
Then wilt dissolve, thy dilemma so much,
Thou shalt see thy future path, crystal clear!

Ask not thee, for weaponry of steel,
For life is not a war, relentlessly fought!
Ask thee for music, and a sumptuous meal,
For life is a fest, with feasts and wonders wrought!
