Antagonism Poem by Sarah Elizabeth Clark

Antagonism

Sanctimoniously watching me
via a telescope of your own conclusions.
It's hot under the magnifying gaze
and in the confusion I'm lost in a maze
of other's expectations.

When I kick the walls I am scolded,
there is just one way out:
Follow the folds in the hedges,
feeling with palm and eye,
but never dare to defy the rules.

Jesters! Jokers! Fools! - Aren't we all?
They're too serious atop the wall!
When it falls we shall dance a defiant jig
and become bigger, greater
than those whose scorn fell before us.
