Angel And The Drowning Man Poem by Robert Mahoney

Angel And The Drowning Man

Every second passed without you here
Is a second spent in vain
Though logic tells me you're not near
I feel you just the same
You fill me with your kindness
And warm me with your voice
And in my darkest moments
You help me see the choice
When life gets so demanding
That hope turns to despair
One thought keeps me still standing:
That I know that you'll be there
As the sky falls all around me
And my world comes crashing down
One thing remains the same
So, I rise above the pain
And let love lift me higher
You are a breath of life to a dying man
So welcome and so sweet
So, take me from this madness
And take me from myself
And should I not return here
I'd want for nothing else
You took my breath away
And filled the empty hole that lies
Where my heart should be
Before that fateful day
When first I looked into your eyes
My soul was like a grave
To the long-dead butterflies
But you have found a way
To bring them back to life
And now I find I cannot breathe
And I don't know what to do
But when I meet you in my dreams
I'm lost in love with you
I'm caught up in this rapture
So beautiful I just can't look away
So when my waking moments seem unreal
And you're the only thing that's real
I give my heart to you
Said the angel to the drowning man,
'I've come to save you from this wasteland'
And so he took the proffered hand
And met the eyes of grace
To the angel said the drowning man,
'I'll always be in love with you'
