Fade To Broken Whispers Poem by Robert Mahoney

Fade To Broken Whispers

It's cold outside and loneliness spans the rain-drenched miles
Shallow footsteps break the silence of the night
Empty eyes are left behind the shadow of a smile
Thoughts are focused on a single question: Why?

Dreams blown away like leaves on the wind
Crumble as they pass on by
Mem'ries they fade to broken whispers
Convoluted thoughts defined
By the broken, lonely man

All the subtle changes tip the balance of the mind
Loss breeds thoughts that fester in the dark
Daylight wanes, it's all the same, as reason's lost to rhyme
Broken frame rests among the wreckage of the heart

Dreams blown away like leaves on the wind
Crumble as they pass on by
Mem'ries they fade to broken whispers
Convoluted thoughts defined
By the broken, lonely man

So take these hopes and take these dreams
And paint them all in pain
And take these ropes, and take these dreams
And latch them to the shame
Hallowed heroes turn away
With only one to blame
Sorrow, like a raging flame
Consumes the broken frame

Dreams blown away like leaves on the wind
Crumble as they pass on by
Mem'ries they fade to broken whispers
Convoluted thoughts defined
By the broken, lonely man
