And She Vanished Without A Trace Poem by Justin Gildow

And She Vanished Without A Trace

It's a cold winter's night
As I step outside for a minute or two
I'm drinking a diet cola as I look up
at the stars

Across the street
I see her
A teenage girl
She waves to me
I wave back
And we acknowledge each other

I'll admit the truth
I don't know her

Finishing my diet cola
I tip my head to her
And I head back indoors

Hours pass by
As I've napped for hours on
the couch
It's strange enough for me
to be up at this time of night

It's been a few hours since I've
been up
That I've been awake

I head outside for some fresh air
For a few minutes
To get away from the dry air
In this house

Outside
I see a woman
She looks worried
Worried about what must be her
daughter that I saw earlier

So, that was the girl I acknowledged
earlier

I acknowledge her mom
And she walks over to me
She asks me if I've seen her daughter
I tell her, I did
Though, it was hours ago

So her daughter's gone
And she vanished without a trace
I wish I could help her
And tell her more than I know

I hope she finds her
Whether alive or dead
Though preferably alive
I hope she finds her

She tells me she'll wait a few more
minutes
Before she'll call the police

I tell her I hope she finds her

That girl
And she vanished without a trace
That girl, who I acknowledged earlier
Unbelievable
