An Empty Rhythm Of Defeat Poem by Iris Mista

An Empty Rhythm Of Defeat

Finding memories of love and sadness
hidden in the loneliest dark
that onetime glimpse of gladness
broken down so endlessly stark

Do I remember the sigh of hope
that bittersweet whisper of the heart
shattered, wounded, no way to cope
beaten, outcast after each restart

The end of dreams in a heart of stone
ripped apart in a flight of lies
deep cutting, into the bone
the soul too deaf to hear the cries

Can I even go back in time
to find the moments so sweet
it doesn't make a gentle rhyme
solely an empty rhythm of defeat
