Always Hungry Poem by Randy McClave

Always Hungry

I wonder if she had said that she loved me
Only because I had a stability,
And because I owned my own car and home
And because from one bar to another I didn't roam.
Or maybe because I received a weekly check
Or maybe because my life wasn't a wreck,
And maybe it was because I always paid my bills
And I was never needing or wanting alcohol, weed or pills.
Maybe it was just because I bought her things
Clothes, presents and pearl earrings,
Or maybe it was just because I saw her as pretty and petite
Or maybe because I never abused or lied or did cheat.
Maybe it was just because I had always put her first
And at her I never did swear, accuse or cursed,
Or maybe the true reason that she said that she loved me
Was because I had money and her stomach was empty.
