Altruism Poem by DEEPAK KUMAR PATTANAYAK

Altruism

Altruism shines when;
Concerned truly we are
About others’ welfare
Down the street
At crossroad somewhere
Seen an old woman standing bent
Upon impact of chilled winter
She waited and waited
Longer than expected
Tossed and rolled by waves
Of crowds careless
Oft jostled away to subway nearby
By human beings cruel and merciless
Overlooking the glance of her anxious eye
None cared to lend helping hand to her
A setting Sun where hope and youth
Are decaying faster
So week and timid,
Sympathy she could not stir
And soon day would pass
And that still hour approaching nearer
At last came out an young, gayest boy
Who offered help across her
Like an Angel of God
Descended from nowhere
To anchor her trembling feet ashore
Young heart now happy and well content
Thanked God that he could help out
An old, poor woman to reach her home
And the old woman prayed God
To be kind enough to that noble boy in her home………..
