A Secret Poem by Mallika Achuthan Menon

A Secret

Rating: 4.0

The potential to love
is a gift from God.
To be loved is meant for
only those who have luck.
The former one
I got from God in plenty
But why He denied
the latter for me?
Yet I waited for a long time
With a bag full of longings
got depressed as usual
as it was my fate.
Dark clouds got silhouetted
In the courtyard of my life
But now I can see there
A ray of hope clear!
You came from nowhere
And stood infront of my mind
With hand full of peace
to impart with me.
Didn't say directly
you love me a lot
But I guessed it from
all syllables of letters you sent
Which came in time daily
In search of me.
Meanings of happiness thus
Dawned on me later
I feel so happy with
What I have got now.
For safety I kept it
In the shrine of my mind
Thus ended the fear
Of loosing it for ever.
I don't know
how he looks
as we have not yet met
And I don't even bother
to know what is he!
I only know this fact
that I am in love
with a man
whom I loved
more than anything
In this world.
To be loved by someone
is greater than
to love anyone.
I realised it well
Better late than never.

Beautiful love poem blessed enough to use correct and meaningful words of emotions that have inner awareness and beautiful emotions to one self to be liking to be loved be it by nature, god, or any thing like idolseeking the ultimate truth of love. Really it is a will of god says the poet and poem is so nice and recited with such goodness. When we go through great poems of great world poets including Kalidas we can see so much love and affection in their poems and having originality of words..

A poem that you have to feel more than understand. It has an exquisite perfume of mystery about it. Very different. Liked it., thank you

Full of passion and honesty. It is always beautiful to write on this theme and pour out the personal dimension in dealing with the subject. Very good start!

I agree with Sandra Feldman (she's a wonderful poet) there is a PERFUME OF MYSTERY about this poem, and it's very appropriate because the poem contains SECRETS which must be treated with care and wonder. You state one of life's harsh truths at the beginning, that is, one of life's great blessings - TRUE LOVE - does not bless everyone. Must it be so? Why? Those are impossible questions to answer but your poem by presenting an individual example of love - secret, sensitive, tentative, waiting - makes us feel the wonder of it all, even though we may never fully understand it.
