A Poet Without A Poem Poem by Shalom Freedman

A Poet Without A Poem

A POET WITHOUT A POEM

A Poet without a poem
Waits and waits
Thinks and thinks
Dreams and dreams
And still has nothing

A poet without a poem
Writes and writes
Corrects and corrects
And still has nothing

A poet without a poem
Listens to himself quietly
Hears nothing but awkward silence
Still has nothing

A poet without a poem
Has nothing
And writes down the nothing
And imagines he has something.
