A Naturally Gilded Rose Poem by Mark Heathcote

A Naturally Gilded Rose

Hearts need a home
a beautiful heroine
not just a chest to beat in.

Souls need a companion
a heavenly trellis
they can twine around and embellish.

And darling, your heart
is a naturally gilded rose, a love banquet?
That requires no enhancement.

And darling, your soul
Is a moonlit garden diamonded?
Jasmine, that's been heavenly hybridised.

With pain and love, you've liaised
but never faulted in December days
to flower-and-encase my heart
with love-and-light diehard.
