A Message From My Lover Poem by Randy McClave

A Message From My Lover

I am tired of cheap hotels and one night stands
All that I want is love and holding hands,
I don't want to be that whisper underneath someone's breath
And I don't want to live in remorse, or in regret.
I do not want to be characterized as loose, cheap or easy
As that is not me, and I am not immoral or sleazy,
I am a good person with a good soul who is just confused
And I am just tired of being hurt, and also being used.
When I walk down the street I don't want to walk in shame
As I have done nothing wrong, so, I don't want no blame,
I do not want strangers whistles or flirts or even their wink
And remember this, I cannot be bought with compliments or a drink.
Besides being my lover you are also my best friend
Truly I believed our love was strong and it would never end,
But, then I heard your stories and then those rumors
They all have deeply hurt me more than tumors.
I wanted to always stand proudly and happy at your side
Never would I shamefully ignore you, or hide,
I wanted to be known, and not to be taken advantage of
I truly thought, that I was in love.
