A Man I Once Knew Poem by Carl Hohenberg

A Man I Once Knew

I look into the eyes of a man I once knew
He longs to be with his wife and daughter too
I see his heartbreak and sadness on his face
I ask; “how did you end up alone in this place”?
This is my burden, my cross to witch I must bare
For I am the cause of my own despair

I have let my family down and told lies
Echo’s of the fallen tears that he cries
I wish I could go back stronger than before
Make the sacrifice; I would try to give more
He whispers these words as he lays his head down
And sighs…lord hear his cries

Looking in the eyes of a man who’s lost his way
What is the cost, how much should he pay
Now all alone in a strange room
He prays for forgiveness to come soon
Will you mend his broken wings?
The pain pulls his heart strings….

Looking in the mirror for the man I once knew
How his heart soared like an eagle when he was with you
He could reach out and touch the heavens and the sky
Now lord see him fly… hear my cry
