A Handshake Poem by Randy McClave

A Handshake

Rating: 5.0

I wish life was like a handshake
Where everyone's word was their truth to take,
Whenever you took and shook someone's hand
By their word alone they would always stand.
You would never need any papers to sign
Or hire a lawyer to ever sue or define,
Every promise that you, or others did make
Would be like a simple, honest handshake.
You would shake a hand when you owe a debt
Or when friends are first time met,
And if there was ever a lawsuit or divorce or break
It could be settled, with just a handshake.
You would never put your hand on the good book
Instead your accusers hand you would have shook,
No promise or oath would you ever forsake
It would be bonded by a simple handshake.
If any deals or ventures you needed to transact
Shaking of hands would be the truest pact,
And if it could only end a heartache;
I wish life's problems could be settled with a handshake.
