A Fathers Footsteps Poem by jason zas

A Fathers Footsteps

You can see him raising his right hand to solute
The American flag waving in the background
He has just been given orders to leave everyone he has ever loved
To fight for peoples freedoms he has never met
The look on his face shows determination
He knows he might not ever see his family again
He knows he might never breath American air again
He knows he is doing this for his country
The tears fall from his face as he boards a plane
Volunteering to fly thousands of miles away from his small home in Ohio
Knowing instead of waking up to his wife next to him
He will wake up to orders and gunfire
Instead of being on call forty hours of the week
He will have his radio by his side every second of every day
Waiting to fight for what he believes in
He has given true sacrifice so others may live they life they choose
He has been fighting for 146 days now
Not once complaining about his job
Because he knows this job
Is the only way to show his dad how much he loved him
He knows he will be watching from above with all his battle scares healed
And a smile on his face
Because his son followed in his footsteps
To fight for the country that he loves!
