.7. All Well Poem by David Threadgold

.7. All Well

Rating: 4.8

Oft in the morn with a mist on the web
Where the fox over fields homeward stray
Awake now the birds for a chorus at dawn
Asleep in their beds children stay

A first glint of sunlight from over the brow
Way passed yonder river fast flowing
Arising the collie from sleep in the hay
Atop five bar gate cockerels crowing

In ten acre pasture where Friesian’s stand tall
Well grazed be the grass juicy green
The parlour waits to relieve them of milk
All feel such a long while it’s been

The chickens are pecking and looking for corn
Each strutting atop scrawny legs
Attuned to the rattle of seed in the tin
For feed they reward with fresh eggs

A giant to all be shire in his stall
Cob brown ankle tresses of white
A bag full of oats to hang under his nose
He needs after waiting all night

Over the cobbles the geese chase the ducks
A race now is on to the pond
All wanting the lead from the larder to pick
For the weed in the water they’re fond

Down in the meadow are blacken faced sheep
They shake off the mist from their fleece
Here comes the farmer to tend to their needs
And once more their world is at peace

I'm thinking that you sir have had much exposure to farms! I loved this one...it had a very pleasant and relaxing tone all the way through. A nice perspective...walking in another animals...shoes...er..umm...hooves? ! Hugs, Dee

David this is such a good rolling pace, and very jauntily takes us around the beautifully rhymed farmyard. Excellent.
