*650 The Greatness Of God Poem by Juan Caballero

*650 The Greatness Of God

Rating: 2.7

This is my personal interpretation of the Swedish Poem 'O STORE GUD' (1886) . It was translated into German 'DU GROSSER GOTT' (1907) and Russian 'VELIKLY BOG' (1912) . The first version in English 'O MIGHTY GOD' (1925) was made by an American - E Gustav Johnson.

O Mighty God - when I observe the wonder
Of nature's wealth created by your power,
I see the clouds - the lightning and the thunder
Ensuing storm and sweet refreshing shower.

Then sings my soul - O Mighty God to you
How great you are - how great you are
Susutaining everything in view
How great you are - how great you are.

When I observe the vastness of your Universe
The countless stars that fill the evening sky
Where Sun and Moon keep watch upon the fastness
Of changing seasons - as the days go by.

When through deep woods and forest paths I wander
And hear the birds all singing in the trees
I stand in awe of lofty mountain grandeur
With rushing falls and lakes of tranquil ease.

The Scriptures tell the record of your Blessing
So freely given to all the human race
Your constant Mercy - every need addressing
Redeeming guilt and weakness by your Grace.

And when at last - the mists of time have vanished
You will reveal what now we dimly see
Through Heaven's gates - where earthly ills are banished
We'll enter Lord for all eternity.

And we will sing - O Might God to you
How great you are - how great you are
When all of Heaven's Glory comes in view
How great you are - how great you are.
