169. Compare Only To Yourself Poem by Jaden Knight

169. Compare Only To Yourself

Rating: 4.5

Not exactly the best thing in life
when every one wants to match you
against your parents and their ancestors
not given enough of a chance to be yourself
you are told you must do better than those who have gone before

No son should pay for the sins of their father
be they hero, leader or just a family man
no daughter should be judged by the way of the mother
no matter what her past
each child is their own individual
in time they will create their own history

No point in comparing against another
even if their blood runs through your veins
each person will have their own mountain to climb
all will have a different path

So forget the comparisons of others
and be who you were born to be
only compare you to your own self
and you will do better each time

'sins of their father', if I had to pay for them I would forever be in debt. I absolutely agree that 'each child is their own individual'. This was a very nice poem for me. Darla :)

So forget the comparisons of others and be who you were born to be only compare you to your own self and you will do better each time good advice in SOME cases. if only a person can figure out who she/he was born to be, AND that who isn't someone i wouldn't like! know what i mean? well put-together, sir. i might add no son OR daughter should pay for the sins of, NOR be judged by the way of, EITHER the mother OR the father.
