Jetties and ferry landings
The last place of safety before the vast North Sea

We breasted the rise and plotted our course
Along stony paths amongst yellow gorse
The sea so vast and glinting its eye
Shimmering backcloth to the herring gull's cry

I look over a wall
At horses in this cloudy-sky spot
At my sides my arms uncertainly fall
I don't know whether to like horses or not;

It's got to be

It's all part of the same thing

That's what you have to understand

A pebble collected

A piece of paper, crumpled and torn
...

Are you happy now
That your fire has eaten up the sky?
That you have done your deed
And left a tree to die,

Survivors, that is what we are
We had to be to get this far,
We wouldn't allow ourselves to crumble and fold
