Connie Wine Poems

Silence comes from within a soul that is at war
war with the pain that is indescribable
the idea of living without understanding
words spoken or written
...

The old man's face is full of wrinkles
his eyes are as black as coal
his long braids are all gray now
you can tell this life has taken its toll
...

Black pools of tainted water,
air heavy with poisonous gases,
fertile farmland paved over,
all in the name of progress.
...

Shadows creeping from the corners
Perhaps a whisper from the past
Inward goes the deepest pain
Rearing up when least expected
...

n that special twilight time when sleep still holds on
I felt the softest touch of breath upon my neck
As whispers floated out of the shadows
I felt upon my lips the gentlest little peck
...

A precious little girl
lying on the floor
when home I came
and opened up the door
...

Lost in a world of denial
that this could happen to me
our marriage was perfect
or so I thought
...

As long dark lashes flutter down
like a feather gently touching her face
a single tear dropp falls
...

Quivering fingers touch upon keys of satin
in my mind forever flowing
thoughts of yesteryear filter through
like the wavy stream of sunlight
...

Great Spirit, I am alive
my heart beats to distant drums
my feet dance to ancient steps
and my soul sings with joy
...

Awaken the keyboard with a morning kiss
position the bench so you can play with ease
let not the morning sun get in your eyes
as you read the music
...

avor the words of wisdom,
hear them with your heart.
Let not the lack of knowledge
tear your soul apart.
...

Years of abuse and destruction
driven from the homes they knew
forced to take on the ways of the whites
...

og rolls in through the night
so many random thoughts take flight
nights dense with sinful acts
many a life it impacts
...

15.

Dear Humans,

We have roamed this life for so many years
free to travel where we wanted
...

So many people lost to death, along the trail of tears
forced from their homes by a race who claimed they were superior
made to leave land they had lived on since the beginning of time
...

hadowy forms running through the forest
whispers blowing in the wind
ancestors who are still fighting the war
and waiting to reclaim their own
...

Another day has come and gone
Jimmy crossed over a few years ago
a fine young man who fell victim to the firewater
that the white man gave so freely
...

A day with the sun blasting
blue sky with fluffy clouds
am I happy or am I sad
am I lost within the crowds
...

A strange land is where my feet roam today
people who speak a different language are who I hear
homes that have been bombed by life itself
destruction everywhere my eyes wander
...

A Thought

Silence comes from within a soul that is at war
war with the pain that is indescribable
the idea of living without understanding
words spoken or written

Solitude is not always just loneliness
loneliness is not always felt by those who are alone
spirits of this realm or the next
do they feel pain or loneliness

Pain that is felt emotionally
fester within the deepest part of our souls
growth is stunted and love is suffocated
for pain is a greedy emotion

Once there is no longer a need for war
within or without
souls will be free again
to break free from the realm of solitude

Once language becomes understood
no matter who speaks it
pain will begin to let go
and solitude will no longer be lonely

Silence, pain, solitude, fear
thirst, hunger, hatred, prejudice
will have lost their battle
