I have a heart,
Made for man.
Those who haven't experienced it
Surely can't understand.
...

Color me lonely.
Went to my hometown
No one is around.
The landscape has changed,
...

She keeps the sun
In her pocket
As she goes
About her day
...

Sometimes,
The Holidays seem to me
Like Veterans Day,
And Memorial Day.
...

The sands of time
Will wash your soul somewhere
Karma will creep in
And the Jellyfish will cling
...

It gets harder and harder,
not to feel the pain,
The scars,
I am at war with myself,
...

The tiny pine,
Planted with hands of love
Grows only inches,
Before the first frost
...

She didn't know.
As she sang, Kitty Wells, "Dear Uncle Sam"
When she was a small child,
That she would be
...

My life has been shattered,
And yours has been sheltered.
How could you have known
We would both
...

If my tomorrow was filled
With stained glass
In high ceilings
If the fruit of my riches,
...

Think I'll curl up in bed
As I always do
You thinking of me
And me thinking of you.
...

He would run
To the edge of the world
Just to pick me
The perfect daisy.
...

I got one more fight
And baby,
This one's for you.
Talent like that,
...

People get tired.
The battles they've fought
Are not yours to understand
And when they finally fall
...

I could go for a good thunderstorm.
The kind of storm
Where we run out
The back exit
...

Sadness breaks with morning light
The sun shines
On the marble
Where you lay.
...

She painted your picture
When she was just Eighteen
A handsome young rock star
Shining down on the little red
...

Your clock ticks to the future
And the hands on my clock
Tick to goodbye.
I can't really comprehend
...

I won't be able to hug
The flowers you lay upon my grave,
But if you look at them closely
You will see
...

I hate nights like this
When I am frightened
To close my eyes
For when I do,
...

The Silenced

I have a heart,
Made for man.
Those who haven't experienced it
Surely can't understand.
I see the homeless,
And their eyes beg to me
I want to give them a fortune
But a twenty is all that
Is afforded by me.
My heart bleeds in silence
For the child
Who has lost
A parent, a sibling,
A grandfather, or brother.
As humans,
If we haven't experienced
The grief of others
We do not know;
We close our eyes
To those whose lives
Have been uncontrollably shattered
Through no means of their own.
I have a heart.
I still wonder
About the man
Who visited me each night
At the convenience store.
He pulledpennies
From his pocket
That took most of the day
For him to earn.
He smelled of alcohol,
Though, I never judged him.
He too, had a story to tell.
We all get along,
As best we can.
Life is hard, and harsh,
We don't always understand.
But to see into others,
As though you could, maybe
Be them,
Is to feel compassion, grief, and worry
And love for each of them.
I have a heart.
