stained red by mortal men

Soldier out there on your own, is it worth the thrill you seek
Lying cold beneath the moon, no persons there too speak

Look at me, you couldn't guess
That my universe is quite a mess
You couldn't see the crashing cars
That leave so many invisible scars

My life has been a poem, and it's verse has been my mind
It's been dark, and cold, and sometimes fine
Perhaps sometimes unkind

Can I ever be free, from this inner thing
It does curse me, and haunt me, if I dance or I sing
It won't let me be happy, or settled or free
And it throws a black veil, over all that I see.

She was there with me, it was her touch I needed most
The quiet hero, being never one to boast
Each day a gamble, the odds an unfair stake
For some of us they save, and some the gods they take

I read about it on the web, it took me by surprise
I thought I knew the reasons why, I felt my heartbeat rise
I cannot wait to leave this place, and feel the slow release
I think I'll try again today, try to make the voices cease

I recall a distant memory, of the time I spent at war
I often wonder what the point, what really was it for
But something else remembered too, even now it brings a chill
The piper at the gates of dawn, to this day I hear him still

When your gone no more I'll know your name
And nothing that is left will be the same
The joy you brought to me will fade
And clouds will darken all the light you made
