Tim Roper Poems

A debt that I owe to thee
For what you have done to me.
For loving me strong as the wild sea;
For brilliant and joyful jubilee.
...

Waste not; want not.
Tie the string up with a knot.
Adding to the ball of twine,
That marks the passing of our Time.
...

Last night,
‘neath sparkling mantel of midnight blue
I, from meadow quite and still,
Sent Love to you.
...

May I hold you Sweet, close and tight?
Not long Dear, just 'till forever comes.
Please shelter here 'till the end of night,
Until darkness to eternal light succumbs.
...

I wish the wishes that cannot be
The wishes for my sweetheart and me
Lying 'neath the summer linden tree
Wishing wishes of impossability

Tim Roper Biography

When it comes to poetry I am old fashioned. I enjoy lyrical poetry with meter and rhyme. The kind of poetry that has a performance, and is meant to be read out loud. I also enjoy the challenge of poetic forms such as sonnets, pantoums villanelles and sestinas. The free verse style of poetry that seems to be most popular today is not really my cup of tea, though I do use that style occasionally.)

A Debt I Owe To Thee

A debt that I owe to thee
For what you have done to me.
For loving me strong as the wild sea;
For brilliant and joyful jubilee.

Though rudder was lost to the endless deep,
And True Love’s heart descended to watery keep;
Our ship run ashore in dismal heap;
On the crest of the wave’s endless sweep.

Still; you loved me strong as the wild sea,
So a debt I owe to thee.
I offer this soul that once was me.
You may keep it for eternity.
