Alcohol Poem by Daniel Edward

Alcohol

Rating: 3.3

and here it comes
like a crack in the wall
spider cracks
creeping up an old stone building
kind of like bloodshot eyes
making it's move
on me
coming up the back of my neck
tickling my insides
i try to patch it up
but it just doesnt stop

i tell it to just back off
or i'll really hurt it this time
and so it laughs
as i try to subdue its laughter
inside of me
but it keeps pushing
and crowding my spine
moving and weaving
in and out of my tissue

i tear at my skin
and collapse
waking to it tapping
on my skull
eyes burning because
the light seems
so much more intimidating
and theres nothing to do but
stumble to some place dark
where i will sleep and awaken
once again
awaken to it tap tap tapping
on my skull

i hear it there
i know it wants out.

I agree that the title helps......but, I really like the intensity in this poem. Anyone that has dealt with (or been) somebody with a struggle with alcohol will surely relate to this one. Very good poem. Sincerely, Mary
