Roisin McNally Poems

I used to be there.
I used to sit with those
People because they were just
Like Me.
...

2.

It all used to be okay.
I had friends, side by side.
We laughed, we talked, it all went so well.
But in a second it was gone.
...

Clenched fist
Broken bones
Foul words
Broken heart
...

4.

I am not a pretty girl
A smart girl, a thin girl
I am that girl who sometimes cries
Because I have a reason.
...

A best friend, I feel like she's there
By my side, laughing in my ear
Despite being a sea apart
Her spirit lives where she has walked.
...

I stand before you now, my love
Fallen from the skies above
As the moonlight pours upon your skin
Lighting up your darkest sin
...

In the twilight I strolled through the misty woods
With the stars and moon arising above
The leaves rustled softly among the ground
And there was silence coming from the dove.
...

Death is comes in three.
But little know.
A single person dies
2 more after.
...

The night was silent like a sleeping bird
But came a hard heavy rain
I sit outside with you in my arms
As I'm soon overwhelmed in pain.
...

He stood before me
The Angel of Death.
Hair as black as the night
Dark wings of a fallen angel
...

I’d run through the forests and deep in the glens
Over mountains and across seas
Fight through blizzards and scorching heat
I would never stop, for nor a day or night
...

Your bitter and mean attitude
Your old and crabbit looks
Your thieving jaws of my new shoes
Your sleeping on my history books
...

I have nothing of importance. I have nothing to give you.
You have everything you can ask for.
But I can give you one thing.
One thing you can’t give back.
...

The night that we first danced, my love
Do you not recall it as well as I?
The stars were glued the the velvet night
As the wind whispered secrets to the trees
...

When I think of You
I think of the memories I have.
How you used to visit
With bags of sweets
...

An angel amongst the humans
So alone, so distant, his eyes are
Staring into a place that I can't see
That no one but he can see.
...

He called me down and banished me
Banished to the pits of the earth
As a soldier to him, to mankind.
But he will not welcome me to his kingdom

Sectarianism

I used to be there.
I used to sit with those
People because they were just
Like Me.
We all went to school, we all
Loved to read
We were all Catholics.
All of us followeres of Christ.
All of us equal.

But I came back one Summer
And was happy. Happy to tell
Them I had a new faith. I found
My true faith.
They looked at me weirdly, saying
It will end soon and she'll
Believe in God again.
I didn't.

Still honest to my faith I prayed
To the gods that they will understand
Me and see me the same.
Wrong again.
They looked at me and laughed,
Whispering about how I was a
Freak. I wasn't like them
Anymore.
I didn't believe in their God.

Soon they would tell everyone
That I had a 'Freakish Faith'
That I bow to the Sun God
And the Moon God.
They called me a 'Bad Monothistic'
That they were right.
I was wrong.

But their comments made me stronger
I prayed to the Gods
I lit candles for my God
I worshipped my Gods
Because they accepted
For who I am.
Me. And only me.
Not like them.

They think they are right.
They cannot accept difference.
But really they are not.
They are Sectarianists.
I am there victim.
Until.
The.
Day.
I.
Die.
