Rhonda Baker Poems

Life is a balance of work and play
A constant balance between night and day
The balance between good and bad
A balance between happy and sad
...

The birth of August is upon us, as the fair haired sun rises in the sky
With songs of the cicada unwinding, the sand hill Cranes sail by
The heat is hovering all around us, we feel heavy in it's grip
To break free from it's bonds, from it's clutches we must rip
...

Purple of a grape ripe on the vine
The purple from a robe, from a majestic time
Purple mountain majesty, high up in the sky
Purple of a butterfly, just passing by
...

A new day is dawning; the winds of change are in the air
All our burdens have been lifted… Our lives are without care?
Our country is a team; that's made up of you and I
We can't put it on one man, just to simplify
...

Hiking up to Twin Falls with my flip flops on
Living a dream I have dreamt for so long
It was farther then I thought
Some locals helped to find what I had sought
...

Angels descend to the ground
Spreading Love all around
Roses, diamonds and a warm embrace
A heart on my palm, you now trace
...

The dark is a coming will I make it another day?
Sleep won't come and the days on replay
My heart is so brittle, threatening to break all-apart
No adhesive made to mend this little heart
...

Winter, like a bad penny you keep turning up
With your cold wind and snow you’re so abrupt
RELEASE your grip and move along!
I’m tried of this weather game of ping-pong
...

The blizzard is coming, the blizzard is coming, and the blizzard is here
School has been canceled, the children raise up a cheer
Sleds unpacked, boots scarves and skates
Going to the sled hill, this days gonna be great!
...

Tiny green shoots break from their earthly bond
Bringing tulips, hyacinths for which we’re fond
Magnolia trees and weeping cherry
Vivid white and pinks so merry
...

Witches, Witches in the night
Across the moon they take flight
Potions, spells and hexes too
CAREFUL they don't catch you!
...

Oh fallen Angel... here on the ground
The vultures and buzzard are circlin' around
Oh fallen Angel, once wild and free
Now on the ground in front of me
...

Poised with jacks firmly in hand
with a feather light touch forming a band
As the piece begins to cool
A fiercer grip, upon the tool
...

Twas just before Christmas in our family home
The pets were all restless and wanted to roam
The kids were upstairs, doing there own thing
Wondering this year what Christmas would bring
...

Feeling hollow, empty nest, a hole through the core
Sadness floods in making me tired and sore
I feel left behind; things are out of place
Is this where I fit in, in the old rat race?
...

Oh! All the music that surrounds us all
The whistle of the wind, or a single bird's call
The hum of the traffic, the chug, chug of a train
The beat upon your house with the coming of the rain
...

When I see you smile everything seems right
Where there was darkness now is light
The twinkle in your eyes breaks through the haze
Giving me direction through life's maze
...

Near the woods I sense their presence
They travel around like gypsy peasants
Like a cloud they rise up from the grass
And move together in a buzzing mass
...

A canvas before me in autumn hues
Against lakes of crisp clear blues
The tart scent of apples all tangy and sweet
Crunching fallen leaves beneath my feet
...

Halloween is approaching, oh what a sight
All the creatures that roam on a Halloween night
This year a “Pirate” stakes a claim above the rest
Guarding her stash of candy, in the old treasure chest
...

Rhonda Baker Biography

I have lived in Michigan my whole life. I come from a large family. I have been married for over 30 years. I make my living as a glass artist working with hot glass(blowing glass) . I was an avid writer in school, but got away from it, Until one day I had an opportunity to express myself, and not be judged. To say in words and glass how I see and feel life. So in the fall of 2007 I started to write again. If you need know anything else about me, read my works. A Balancing Act

Life is a balance of work and play
A constant balance between night and day
The balance between good and bad
A balance between happy and sad
Friends and family, pets and the lawn
Twenty four seven, your whole life long
Then one day in the middle of the night
You're thrown off balance, nothing seems right
What once was, is no longer the norm
You're left in turmoil in the eye of a storm
You struggle to regain control in your life
To make sense again, turn wrong into right
To define the person you are now
To make it through life, some way, some how
On auto pilot you just fly along
Hoping to catch a breeze, to give words to your song
Then in the future the scales line up again
BEWARE! It's just an illusion, my friend
