Zero Avenue Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Zero Avenue

Zero Avenue

On both sides of the road
The farmers grew corn.

Put the harvest in bags,
Marked, US, Canadian.

The feathers of one bird
Were whitish, fallen there.

Few were on right side
And some on other side.

Sun, silver and golden
Stood high in heavens,
Fatherly saw, observed.

Treasured stories
Of the past that had seen.

The Natives, Indians,
Lived here in tepees
Not needing a permit
For building, crossing.

High above, in sky
Flew eagles, crows.

One tiny bird arrived,
Landed on camera
That is there to spy
On people who cross.

Moving its under tail
It dropped, delivered
A wise sign; rejected
A latitude as border…

Devils lie in anthems
And in the governments
And flags with soldiers
And worship places!
