Your Eyes Are Big And Close To Mine (Couplets) Poem by Gert Strydom

Your Eyes Are Big And Close To Mine (Couplets)

As the sun hangs bloody-red in the African sky
a myriad of birds to their nests fly by,

they sing songs in tune and it will be dark soon,
while above gleams a pale-white moon,

and far above the chandeliers of stars shine;
your eyes are big where they are close to mine

and maybe as horrid as Romeo loved Juliet,
the love in a way has been since we have met

but I have relived this out of sweet memory
from the time that you have been dear to me,

remember being young and your soft skin
sticking to mine, as if I were breathing you in,

where apart and yet so together we felt,
while close at heart we each other held,

and maybe for a moment in time and space
we had eternal memories that nothing can erase,

while we kissed in bliss and it was almost divine,
where your lips had been sweeter than wine

and of your heart, spirit and soul I still know
while each day away I do on with my life go.
