You Opened My Eyes Poem by Paul Sebastian

You Opened My Eyes

Rating: 5.0

You gently opened my veiled eyes
In your counsel, you empathized
Opened my eyes to a self, not known
Through the mirror you had shown
Actively listening, bearing my pouring
Hours on end, patiently care-giving
You gently opened my veiled eyes
To see that I had been so unwise
To have walked the dim path of illusory love
Where selfishness and greed, beside strove
A love prospect that was undeserving
A pursuit not worthwhile venturing
Saved from the journey of love’s pain
Reality awakened, my sense regained
Like an angel you watched me grow
Tendering positivity seeds you sowed
With your affirmations, my wings grew
You pushed: I spread my wings and flew
Soared against winds, I climbed the heights
Above the clouds, I began to set new sights
Because you came, and opened my eyes

Had you not crossed my path and opened my eyes
I would still be a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.
Friendship garden nursing yellow roses, there you lie
Breaking dawn, my guardian angel, yet standing by.
