You Next To Me Poem by Asma Khan

You Next To Me

You are my cup of tea
but carry the scent of coffee
I drink you in every sip,
in every breath

You my piece of advice
but hear nothing deeper than my voice
I call you in the silence of this space
every moment every time

You are the apple of my eyes
but see through all my lies
I talk you to myself giving me
the freedom to have you

You are the moon of my nights
but reflect nothing, nor even the lights
I shade my eyes with colors of your
choice to look at you

You are the last chapter of my life
but write nothing to add to my plight
I recall each part of our story
to read you not once, twice but thrice
