You Hated Me (Then And Now) Poem by Randy McClave

You Hated Me (Then And Now)

I never raped or murdered, or committed any type of theft,
"Not my land! " you all screamed, and I should have left.

You hated me and then you viciously spat upon my face,
You then said that I was evil, and a total disgrace.

I was told to prove myself, but I told you that I would not,
I then told you that someone else, and not me you had sought.

To ridicule or shame a homosexual, unlike you I never did,
I am like a proud parent, my love for my children I never hid.

I said that you should help and provide for the hungry and the poor,
You wouldn't, then you said the needy would only ask for more.

To work on Sunday, I told you that I have no problem at all,
You then called me ungodly, saying that you hope that I did fall.

You said that wealth and power all men will always want and seek,
I said, turn the other cheek.

I made friends with prostitutes, and with the people of shame,
You called me immoral, and that my death would be mine to blame.

You believe in carrying a weapon, I believed in it never,
A weapon I will not ever use, to threaten, to murder, or to sever.

You asked to talk to my father, I said you have already spoke to him,
You then got angry and called me blasphemous, saying my living is very grim.

All about me you hated, so about me you made up false stories and lied,
But, I still loved you, so on the cross for yours sins I died.
