You Are Still Here Poem by Habeeb Kayode Yahaya

You Are Still Here

I have been to the hallways
And to every walkways i had known
Seeking for faces that carry smiles around
Seeking for mouths, saturated with laughter
Despite the troubles that filtered the year of the double (2020)
Mouths have wallowed in tears
Hearts have billowed in the breeze of sorrow
Souls have been abducted by death
Illness has tortured countless souls
But you, yes you
Your hope and optimism never fade a bit
Happiness is truly a state of the mind
As i watch you wear it gleefully
The cutest designer you've ever put on
Not Balenciaga, Gucci, Dior., no
It's just happiness

When grief ties you down
You 'tiraka' and 'gbiyanju'
fighting back to loosen the knot of depression
from the depth of your heart, You are still here
Your teeth sparkle with the bling of happiness
The one you made for your self.
Your smile gives me hope
And yet, they don't know you're a warrior
I do, I've seen you slay many Goliaths
You are the Rumi that walks the earth
With love and contentment
