Yesterday’s Man Poem by C Richard Miles

Yesterday’s Man

Do you ever feel you are yesterday’s man,
Just out of the picture, not part of the plan,
Not wanted on journey, no longer of use
But scared if you tell them that you’d cook your goose?
Quite sure you’ll discover, though others may thrive,
You’ll be told, “Come collect your P45.”
But though they must think you’re a thorn in the flesh,
You’ll get your revenge when they get in a mess,
When their business won’t function, because of a glitch
Caused by loss of a part they decided to ditch.
For you were the cog that kept it all going
But, until you went, they had no means of knowing
That you were the compass that kept them on track
But now it’s too late and they won’t get you back
And, as they despair at their problems and cares,
Just sit back and laugh for, now, yesterday’s theirs.
