Worth Poem by Robin Rodriguez

Worth

It wasn't you who worked and studied;
It was me.
You didn't give
Four years of your life
To getting top grades;
I did.

You probably can't do half
The things that I can do.
But what I do is
Never good enough for you.
Even if I did everything
Exactly as you wanted,
It would never be right.

You want me to go to college,
But complain at the cost.
You want me to get good grades.
I get the A's, but they're never high enough.

You tell me to study harder and harder,
And you wonder
Why I have a problem having fun.

I can't live in the here and now;
I have to live to plan the rest of my life.
When will I be able
To stop planning and live? ?
You tell everyone
'You have one life, so enjoy it.'
But what is enjoyment?
Our views of life are different
So just let me be.

I will plan and work harder and harder,
but just one thing,
If I died tomorrow,
Would it all have been worth it?
