Worlds Apart Poem by Matthew O'Brien

Worlds Apart

As I lie still,
My mind intoxicated with thoughts of you,
My body aches
At the idea of us being apart.

Your lips.
Your rosy red lips touching mine.
Your kiss
Awakening me from this nightmare.

Your soft, sweet hair
Grazes my forehead.
The weight of your body
Shifts onto mine
As if becoming one
For a brief moment.

And in an instant,
Something occurs.
The realization begins-
Creeping into my head.

You are gone.
Miles away,
In the same room.
Trapped in prisons
Fashioned by our own consciousness.

So close,
Yet so far,
Worlds apart,
Miles away,
In the same room.
