Wolves Poem by Ashley Fortin

Wolves

Why do you wait bellow my window?
Watching for a wandering foe?

I hear your angry ripping growls,
I hear your high and fearing howls.

Yet when the night is calm and clear,
With no one out here to fear.

You come to see me as I sleep,
As though you are my strong built keep.

Like shadows moving in the night,
You keep so still and quiet; right out of sight.

But somehow I still see your eyes,
So clear and fearful so clean of lies.

I hear the floor boards creek,
I see you silently sneak.

At once you are on my bed,
Above my body just bellow my head.

Your teeth bared and snarls ripping,
But still my consciousness is slipping.

As you see no threat to my quiet being,
You sail to the window as to commit fleeing.

I listen for the foot steps fading,
Yet I only hear your waiting?

So I look out the window to see what I'll find,
My eyes search slowly as the sheers intertwine.

There you stand at the fringe of the forest,
Awaiting my coming.

So I descend towards the moist green earth,
To find you there beside my presence.

Peaceful and serine you are,
Awaiting not far.

So I come to walk with you,
And quickly we depart from the world ruled by violent thrones,
To a world which truly is my home.
