Will You Be There? Poem by Astell Collins

Will You Be There?

Will you be there when my enemies plot against me?
And temptation weakens my body
Will you be there when I’m frightened?
And my circumstances darkens
Will you be there when my morality has no merit?
And I can’t call upon your spirit
Will you be there when all that surrounds me is sin?
And there is no one to let me in
Will you be there when my path is haunted by ghosts?
Not wanting to detour for in you I’ve hoped to boast
Because of your promise, when there’s no one here
I know you’d be there
