Why Arms Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Why Arms

Why arms

Then, I was officer
And flew aeroplane
Flight suit of fighters
Was cover, toe to head.

But in me, was angel
Rejected use of arms!

How could I, officer
Go to my commander
And talk and complain?

Instead chose uncle,
My mother's brother
A teacher, professor.

We sat and spoke peace:
"Good to use arms' money
In building hospitals
And many, many farms
To grow the trees
As well as the crops
With birds and animals
Which, help the people run
Between them and have fun
While filling tummies of
The needy, old and young
And widows and orphans…

When flew far and wide
All around our Iran
Logistic, tactical,
Saw deserts and vast lands.

In my head had plans
Filling them with schools
Of varied cultures, thoughts
Neighbouring wall to wall
And using sharing yard
Expand and nourish love
As we should, if mankind.
