White-Swans Land In Pretoria (English Sonnet) Poem by Gert Strydom

White-Swans Land In Pretoria (English Sonnet)

In the Ukraine barbaric tactics are used:
children, women and men are now dying,
it's clear the war will not be defused.
Russian soldiers cause hardship and crying.

Putin, now threatens with a nuclear attack,
invoking annihilation and devastation,
with something evil, no one can turn back,
aimed to stop support from any nation.

At Air-Force base Waterkloof, two White Swan's land:
Russian nuclear bombers, harpies to me.
Support of Russia I cannot understand,
just great evil I do in all this see.

What devious future plans are now instate,
as witless reporters, do these aircraft elate.

[Poet's note: Even if this landing took place before this war in the Ukraine, what this poem says still rings true.]
