Where Was Ubuntu Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

Where Was Ubuntu

When the ruling elite embezzled state funds
And our people died of treatable cholera and typhoid
When they looted the treasury
And our people were swept away by cyclone Idai in Chimanimani
When they destroyed roads and the railway systems
And came cruising in SUVs and 4x4s
When they looted the treasury
And destroyed the healthcare delivery system
When they destroyed our education system
And sent their children to be educated in foreign lands
When they mortgaged our land to the Chinese and the Russians
And massacred us when we flooded the streets in protests
When their land barons destroyed our wetlands
And left our cities and towns dry
When they destroyed our homes
And left us homeless in our own homeland
When they stole COVID-19 donated funds,
And expected Corona virus to be as selective as typhoid
Must our people be burden with worries from across the economic divide?
We are sinking in our mounting problems, which are not of our own making
Are we to blame for the anger we have bottled for this long?
