Where Is It! The Intelligence Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Where Is It! The Intelligence

People continue to pay,
Exorbitant fees...
To have their children accepted,
Into the most prestigious schools.
Many mortgage their homes.
Credit their debts to ocean depths.
Or decide a higher education to get,
Is worth more than eating.
Without calories to count.

Yet...
With all this money spent,
Walking the halls of ivy.
And partying to hobnob with children,
Whose parents are reported...
To be the cream of the crop.
What happens to all of this 'intelligence'?
Did they not graduate with diplomas,
Proving these 'mentalities'...
Were able to improve humanity with progress.

Or...
Has this manufacturing industry,
To once have been beneficial.
Allowed to become outdated by greed.
With the pretentiousness of it,
Increasing in price to charade...
The obvious decaying of it employed,
To keep the many perceiving...
This 'progress' achieved is envied!
