Where I Am From (Imitation) Poem by Laurel Williams

Where I Am From (Imitation)

I am from saddle soap.
from Effax
and Lexol.
I am from the Ranch style and the Victorian
it felt like home.
I am from the Deer,
the birds,
the running, and flying.
I am from the busy schedules,
and forgetfulness.
I am from Bonnie and Bill,
and Amanda.
I am from the yelling and
complaining.
From 'Once upon a time' and
'Happily ever after'.
I am from equality,
that we are all the same.
I am from Ames and Europe:
Rich soups,
and decadent desserts.
From when Gramps was chased by a panther,
and the time when I tried to go down the slide on a sled.
I am from cool white labs, smelling of formeldahyde. I am from a veterinary hospital, brand new, filled with the sound of barking dogs, screeching birds, and beeping machines.
