When We Had It All Poem by Ray Hansell

When We Had It All

Love came to us
In the summertime
My heart was yours
Your heart was mine

We'd hold hands in the park
Steal a kiss when no one would see
I felt like I was on top of the world
Life seemed perfect for you and me

We were only sixteen
Going on twenty one
We didn't take life serious
As we were having too much fun

But as the summer's passed
And we grew older
So many things
We couldn't get over

I thought you were the only one
Who would ever have my heart
Never in my wildest dreams
Did I ever think we'd part

But now life finds you and I
Thousands of miles apart
Those summer days from years ago
Will forever live in my heart

I think of those days now and than
When I close my eyes I see
Two innocent kidding stumbling along
Hoping to figure out what love might be

So many memories you gave to me
You are the one I always see
When I close my eyes at night
Remembering what childhood used to be

You are the angle that comes each night
When I close my eyes to sleep
You are the one I'll forever remember
The one who's love I'll always keep
