When Sleep Neglects Poem by Lily Espinosa

When Sleep Neglects

Late at night
Swollen eyes
Tired
Puffy.
I think of you.
Throat scratches
Screaming for liquid,
This bitter cold
Harsh on vocal chords.
I starve the thirst
Allow no salvation
Nor that soothing comfort.
Instead I think of you.
Body calm
Cool
Collected.
Mind shouts
Violence erupts.
Understanding lost,
Hope shattered.
Picture perfect worlds
Mock me
Out of reach.
Still I think of you.
The topic of my burning hands
Insomnia
Reverting withdrawal.
I think of you.
